Project background

European Countries have similar problems connected with the ageing of societies. As number of elderly people in the population is growing even faster, one should make sure that senior citizens are strong and actively participating in social life group. Informal and non-formal education is a powerful tool that makes such an activation possible. As organizations and institutions working with the elderly, all partners have a common goal but choose different ways to pursue it and place emphasis on other aspects related to education of the elderly. By means of comparison, partners can exchange experiences, ideas and learn from each other.

Thanks to the realization of the project we can improve our work and meet the seniors' expectations in relation to our activities.

What have we done?

The Project’s kick off meeting took place on the 13th and 14th of October in Poznan (Poland). During the meeting the Partners had the possibility to meet  the CSI’s staff (project coordinator) and several heterogeneous organizations, to face off culture and traditions of different countries and set up new networks and synergies in order to enlarge borders and action potential; it represented a good occasion for the partners to introduce themselves and collect first contacts from other organisations involved in the same matters.

On 9th and 10th of February there has been the second project meeting in Turin (Italy) planned by V.S.S.P. – Voluntary Service Centre. During these two days, the Partners have discussed about how volunteering should represent a tool to stimulate the active participation of over 50. The learners and the staff met several volunteers of different Voluntary Organizations working in different fields.

Beginning from specificity and incentives which characterized the organizations and the countries partner, 5 topics have been individuated to reflect upon, to deal with and put them in action:

  1. Sharing of knowledge (bidirectional) between the old and the young;
  2. Voluntary service as a way to learn and teach;
  3. Living longer and better;
  4. Culture and art as ways to express one’s own personality;
  5. ICT and language skills as essential tools to work together in Europe.

  What will we do?
